GHUD reads Google Sheets through the Google Sheets API. Before Unity can load your spreadsheet data, you need a Google Cloud API key that is allowed to use the Google Sheets API.
This page will show the steps to acquiring and applying the needed API key for GHUD.
Here are the steps to get your own API key for use with Google Sheets:
Sign into Google with your desired Google Account.Â
(A Google account with Multi-Factor-Authentication is required)
You can sign in at https://accounts.google.com
If Google asks you to accept the Google Cloud terms,
Select your Country
Check the "I agree to the Google Cloud Platform Terms of Service..." box
Click "Agree and continue"
If you already have a Google Cloud project set up on your account,
Select or create the Google Cloud project you want to use for GHUD
Click the "Google Sheets API" box
Click "Enable"
Go to: https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/credentials
Click "+ Create credentials" then "API key"
Name the API key; suggestion: "[Your_Project_Name]_API_Key"
Under "Select API restrictions", select "Google Sheets API" then click "OK"
Note: if the "Select API restrictions" dropdown is empty, cancel, refresh the page, and try again.
Click "Create"
Copy the content of the "Your API Key" box
Here you will learn where to apply your Google Cloud API Key to connect Unity to your Google Sheets.
In Unity (or the File Explorer), open: Assets/GHUDatabase/APIKey/APIKey.txt
Replace the placeholder text with your API key.
Save the APIKey.txt file.
Important: APIKey.txt is for editor configuration. It is not intended for public distribution.
Don't worry though; as long as you don't add any serialized references to the file, and keep it outside of "Resources" folders,
it will not be included in your builds.
