While the Unity Editor menu bar for GHUD is fast and convenient, GHUD also has its own editor window with all its system options. The GHUD window has more options than the menu bar, but the most common actions are on both.
To open the GHUD Window, select Tools > GHUD > Window
The GHUD window can be docked or resized as needed.
~ Data Loading ~
Get All Data
Completely updates the Unity data tab scriptable objects and enums to match the current Google Sheets.
It refreshes the Unity domain 1 to 3 times depending on tabs being added, removed, or renamed.
Collected data can be accessed at runtime in code using [TabName].[ColumnName]([RowEnum]);
Learn more about data referencing and organization on the Tab Classes Page.
Get Cell Data
A faster refresh of the Google Sheets data, but only accounts for changes in already existing rows, columns, and tabs.
If any rows, columns, or tabs were added, removed, or renamed, you must use Get All Data instead.
Log Details
When checked, all the steps in the data collection process are logged to the console as they are completed.Â
This is usually unnecessary, but may be useful for troubleshooting.Â
~ Asset Loading ~
Set Asset References
Runs all generated asset loader scripts and assigns matching Unity assets to the selected data rows.
If there is a serialized reference to an asset not found in the proper folder, it will not be removed.
Learn more about asset loading on the Asset Loading Page.
Clear Missing References
Runs the same process as Set Asset References except it removes references to assets not in the proper loader folders.
LoaderTab
Selects which data tab will have a loader script generated with the Generate Asset Loader Script button below.
Asset Type Checkboxes
Select which asset reference types the generated loader will support.Â
GHUD can generate loaders for Animation, Audio, Material, Mesh, Prefab, and Sprite references.
For other asset types, you can manually edit the generated script to support your asset type.
Generate Asset Loader Script ...
Creates an asset loader script for the selected LoaderTab using the checked asset types.
After generating the script, place matching assets in the tab asset folders and run Set Asset References.
Assets should be named to match the enum name of the corresponding data entry to be picked up.
Custom edits can be made to the generated scripts to support other asset types or multiple assets of the same type.
Once the asset loader scripts are created, you can use Set Asset References to load those assets from the project folders.
Loaded assets can be accessed at runtime in code using [TabName].[AssetTypeName]([RowEnum]);
~ Row Class Generation ~
RowClassTab
Selects which data tab the Generate Row Scripts button will generate row scripts for.
Generate Row Scripts ...
Creates or adds missing user-editable row scripts for each row in the selected tab.
Use this when you want custom logic or behavior code to be written per row.
Learn more about row scripts on the Row Classes Page.
~ Tab Status ~
The Tab Status section offers a quick overview of the Google Sheets data collected, and how it's being used in your project.
Tab
The name of each current data tab.
Rows
The number of rows currently in each tab that are being used for the tab enum.
Asset Loader
Shows whether that tab currently has a generated asset loader script.
Row Scripts
Shows whether that tab currently has generated row scripts.
~ Export ~
ExportTab
Selects which tab will be exported with the Export CSV button below.
Export CSV
Exports the selected ExportTab to a CSV file using the current Unity-side data.
Exports are placed in Assets\GHUDatabase\Exports\
~ Cleanup ~
Clear Deleted Tab Assets
Checks for generated GHUD assets that belong to tabs no longer present in the Google Sheets and deletes them.
This can help clean up unneeded files when asset loaders or row class scripts are generated for a tab that got removed.
Delete GHUD Sample
Removes the included GHUD sample project from your Unity project.
This must be run before starting on your own database,
as it removes code and assets that depend on the example tabs, columns, and rows provided in the GHUD Template sheets.
Free use of Google Cloud APIs is limited, but the limits are typically not an issue for GHUD use.
However, GHUD makes multiple Google Sheets API requests during a data update using Get All Data or Get Cell Data.
The request count increases with the number of tabs on the Google Sheet.Â
For spreadsheets with 18-28 tabs, you can usually run about two full updates per minute.
If too many updates are run too quickly, Google may return a rate-limit error in the Unity Console.
Wait about a minute before trying again.
For spreadsheets with 50 or more tabs, GHUD automatically throttles requests,
so updates will take longer but won't hit Google's per-minute limits unless you are using the same key for other API requests.
